What Is an Agrihood?

An agrihood is a thoughtfully planned residential community centered around a working farm, designed to foster a connection between the community, their fresh food, and the land. Unlike traditional subdivisions, which sometimes may be centered around parks, sports courts, or nothing at all, an agrihood offers a unique alternative that integrates sustainable agriculture into everyday living. Here, residents can enjoy access to fresh, locally grown produce right from inside of their neighborhood, while also benefiting from other amenities for all ages. For families, an agrihood can provide a safe, walkable environment for children where they can grow up with hands-on exposure to gardening, farming, and outdoor activities. On the other hand, for adults and seniors, an agrihood offers opportunities for active living, wellness, and greater community involvement. Ultimately, an agrihood is more than your typical neighborhood, it’s an ecosystem that supports the physical, emotional, and social well-being of every resident, at every stage of life.

The Property

The Trinity Ridge Agrihood sits on 38 acres of land and was developed with 17 residential lots. The upper residential section of the land sits on a ridge created by the Niagara escarpment which gives many lots an unmatched view of the Green Bay area. However, the rest of the property rests on reclaimed quarry land which has been previously farmed for generations by the Van Straten family. Much of this area has been preserved in its natural woodland state, and some further developed into the Agrihood's urban farm section.
